Who runs the world? Girls! This next beautiful wedding inspiration shoot was inspired by all the strong women out there doing their thing and shaking up the world while doing it. Photographer George Liopetas teamed up with Ilianna Kontogeorgi of Time For Elegance and together they created a regal spread. An alternative take on 2020 destination microweddings 

A SILVER LINING

They say every cloud has a silver lining, and this year, the pandemic was the cloud for many couples whose nuptial plans involved an entire slew of changes. The silver lining? Love was not canceled. In fact, microweddings showed us that where there’s a will there is definitely away, and this romantic microwedding inspiration comes to attest that with the right kind of attitude, micro-vows can be equally if not even more special. 

AN ALTERNATIVE VENUE 

Destination weddings in Greece are usually about scoring a venue with great outdoor facilities to host a couple’s guests, given that everyone arrives at a warm-weather country, famous for its jaw-dropping views and sunset vistas. Ours however was a wish to seek-after an alternative take on getting wed in style. Falirikon in Piraeus was just perfect for its aesthetic values, stone walls decorated with metalwork which render the feeling of an industrial era post-modernist art gallery, but also because, just like a wedding celebration, it is a diverse, spiritual, material, and symbolic entity. It instantly began to occupy our collective imaginaries for its “imageability”, the quality that renders a space memorable and notable in the mind of the guests. 

THE MOOD & TABLE DECOR 

As destination wedding planners we’ve had our fair share of warm tones and palettes, so this time we decided to focus on cool and refreshing accents that would perfectly comb with the masonry and mineral tones of the space around us. We focused on pastel blues, and fawn nudes, paired with black, optic white, and taupe, with a gentle note of sage green. Fusing silky and transparent textiles with crispy natural linens, fine glass, and écume de mer art de la table from White Lilac we joined the elements of earth, air, and water to bring a little bit of the outside indoors. Poulette Pastry created a limestone-textured tiered cake with dried Italian ruscus stems, while following the new regime for individually served desserts, they suggested mini baked French-apple-and-creme-brulee tarts. 

SAVE THE DATES & PAPER GOODS

Microweddings don’t require the couple to produce a large number of wedding invitations and paper goods, therefore they are the perfect opportunity for the bride and groom to be, to create lavish full-blown paper suites with their favorite stationery masters and calligraphers. Papierove created vintage-paper save the dates, envelopes, and double escort cards in calligraphy and dainty, romantic, pastel blue botanical prints, as well as the couple’s vow booklets and thank you notes. 

THE FLORAL VISION 

Jack & Leonie’s floral scheme involved white orchids, scabiosa pods, pampas grass, baby’s breath, and natural green and dried Lunaria. Lunaria which is also known as “Honesty” is an excellent, sustainable addition to wedding arrangements, its delicate, paper-thin iridescent leaves look magical and are the perfect statement-maker. For both, the couple’s ceremony and reception table for 8 Les Fleuristes created two massive clouds of blooms as well as matching arrangements, a long runner for the dinner scene, a smaller one for the cake stand, an ascending installation for the arch, and a coordinating glass decanter piece at the other end. Jack’s boutonniere and Leonie’s bouquet included the same stems, to emphasize entirety and omnitude. For the lady friends of the bride our florist suggested an alternative wreath-style arrangement to carry, something they could easily keep after the celebration and use at home as a base for lit candles. 

THE BRIDAL FASHION 

It’s not the new 20s unless you have a nod from the roaring ones. We loved how the gorge Anna Anemomilou gown featured head-to-toe beading, cascading down to a feathered hem, a long ethereal chiffon skirt, v-neckline, and feather epaulets. Channeling our inner Daisy Buchanan Frantzeska paired this Jazz age design with flapper-style hair and makeup adding a debutante-worthy headpiece from Katerina Sarvani. Kat’s Follies Strass transparent fishnet pumps inspired from the stellar universe completed the decadent look to have opulence meet elegance. The bride’s trousseau also included romantic perfume bottles and fine jewels from Gold Saloon.

“Summer is the feeling of freedom and serenity, a time when everything is possible! Long walks on the beach, feeling the sand grains caressing your toes and the beach waves lacing the shore inspired us to create the ultimate summer wedding!

Our color palette was white and light blue, sunset gold and green, all colors inspired by the summer of our dreams. We chose a bouquet of white season flowers, chamomile and lots of greenery, to highlight the elegant simplicity of a summer wedding. A beautiful wedding dress made of silk that fluttered in the summer breeze and a tuxedo created the most polished assembly. For the table setting, we wanted something clean and minimal, yet elegant and romantic, so golden cutlery and gold-rimmed glasses, combined with a crisp white tablecloth and light blue towels were a must. What we loved the most was the unconventional wedding cake, decorated with mother of pearl shells shimmering in the sun.

Sounds like a summer dream, right? We think so!”
